This is a huge tea plantation owned by Harrisons Malayalam Ltd in Wayanad, India. There were several take-aways from this visit. First, the tea plants are kept cut short because the tea leaves that are harvested are the tiny ones at the tip of a branch. Normally, the plant would grow ten feet tall which would make picking the tea leaves impossible. Second, they don't pick individual leaves. Rather they use a hedge cutter on the top and then sort the good ones out in a second step. We also visited a tea factory where the tea is processed. Very interesting. Remember the jingle, "I like those tiny little tea leaves in Tetley Tea."
