We had a visit to the Sree Subramania Ayurvedic Nursing Home in Kozhikode, Kerala, India. Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems, originating in India over 5,000 years ago. The word itself comes from Sanskrit: "Ayur" meaning life, and "Veda" meaning knowledge—so Ayurveda translates to “the science of life.” The nursing offers all sorts of hocus pocus holistic treatments. They gave a demonstration of how several treatments are applied. In this photo our friend Sunita is having a poultice applied to her wrist. Since this is a holistic thing, medicine is only part of the treatment. The whole deal includes mind, body, spirit and environment. They showed a slide about the thirty things you should do when eating. I didn't think it could be so complicated to have a bacon cheeseburger and fries.
