This is one side of the Old Castle, which dates back to the 13th century, served as the residence of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth for 150 years, from 1603 to 1753. It was destroyed in a big fire in 1753, then the New Castle construction began. Now, this Old Castle looks much newer than the New Castle, because this one was largely rebuilt or reconstructed. It's not far from the New Castle and the Margravial Opera House. It is not a residence for the Margrave Family anymore. Instead, it has become a government office building, housing the Finance and Tax Department.
