Anlaf Guthfrisson (939-941), York, a beautiful example of the most iconic of Viking coins

ANLAFCUNUNC7 +AĐELFERDMINETREΓ

The CUNUNC (Konungr) inscription is the earliest known Old Norse text rendered in the Latin alphabet. The use of Old Norse language instead of Latin is coupled with the raven image, associated with the Norse god Odin (but also with the Northumbrian St. Oswald).

The British Museum example can be seen here: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/C_1862-0930-1
