"This is just a cobblestone passageway between two stone buildings; what's interesting about that?"
Well... it is to me. This is a captured moment in time that will never come again, in a place that I don't like my chances of returning to. The architecture is of a type that I rarely experience, and it reflects a lifestyle that I got to experience for barely more than 24 hours, more than 3 years ago from when I'm writing this (5 years from when I finally posted it) and even longer from whenever you (whoever "you" turn out to be) are seeing it. To get back to Europe takes me more than 24 hours there, 24 hours back.
Thus this place, this shot, this moment, has the value of rarity for me. In a world where we are saturated with images and videos, individual photos barely register. "Oh, pretty lake, oh, pretty mountain, oh, cute kitten", and none of it sticks. For me, though... I was here. This shot can bring back a memory of what it was like to be in that place, at that time.
For anyone else looking at it, it will most likely just bounce off as "just another photo", which is understandable given the way our brains are overstimulated these days. I still however think that there is a space for "photojournalism" style shooting where the intent is to give anyone who has the time and bandwidth to stop and look a "feel" for a place.
