These are the typical stilt houses of the Bajau Laut, the indigenous sea faring people of Borneo. A typical single room house for the entire family. No bedrooms or kitchens, no privacy and no sanitation.
What made it worse was that about 6 months later, these houses were burnt down leaving this already displaced people homeless. I am not sure who the culprit was (this was a deliberate and systematic arson). It's a disastrous state of affairs because none of Malaysia, Indonesia or the Philippines want to resettle these people. Whereas they are literally the salt of the earth in this part of the world.
