Sumba is the southernmost village of the Faroe Islands, located on the island of Sušuroy.
If you want to visit the southernmost island of the Faroe Islands, Sušuroy, you can sail with the ferry "Smyril" from Tórshavn to Tvųroyri. The trip lasts 2 hours and is a fantastic experience in itself.
As soon as the ship leaves the harbor, it sails close past the capital's oldest district, Tinganes, and its red-painted wooden houses thatched with grass. On the other side you can see the island of Nolsoy.
The best view is if you position yourself on the starboard side (right side) of the ferry. From here, if visibility is good, you can see eight of the 18 Faroese islands: Streymoy, Nólsoy, Hestur, Sandoy, Skuvoy, Stóra Dķmun, Lķtla Dķmun, and Sušuroy in that order.
When the "Smyril" has left the Nolsoy Fjord, in good visibility, you can see the southernmost tip of Hestur, an island with about 20 inhabitants, on the western horizon, while Sandoy appears ahead. The ship slowly sails past its coast with waterfalls, green valleys and occasional steep cliffs, where countless seabirds live in the summer.
