Clever Downspout

We saw this neat downspout in the town of Breisach, Germany.
Never seen anything like that in this country.
Breisach is a lovely small town filled with beautiful homes.
We enjoyed our morning there very much.

Someone should start doing that in this country - it could become all the rage!

Great shot of this interesting downspout. I've seen a couple of similar ones in DC, but they are pretty rare here. V.

the days of style and character in building design are mostly in the past, having been bumped aside in favour of mere function...good thought to take in such details of earlier times..

Well spoted water spitter with your keen eye as a great photographer! V
PS. The concept of draining rainwater from the roof using simple pipes or in the shape of animal heads has been known since ancient times. In Greece, for example, lion-head-shaped gargoyles were installed as roof terracottas on early Doric temples (dog heads have been found on temples of Artemis from the 4th century BC).
