One of Two Eagles

As the story goes Mr. Vanderbilt named his estate Eagle’s Nest because on one of his early visits to the location he saw an Eagle take off from the property.
There are two cast iron eagles at the entrance of the property.
I did get a photo of the two of them but it was this shot I liked better.
I liked that you can see the eagle's expression.
These cast iron eagles were originally two of the ten perched on top of the old Grand Central Depot in Manhattan before it was demolished.
Each eagle is 9 feet high and has a wingspan of 14 feet.
They each weight 4,040 pounds.
About six or seven years ago some real eagles came back to this area.
While their nest is not on the Vanderbilt property anymore it is not far from there.
They are spectacular to see.
I have a few photos of them but I don’t have the gigantic lens you need to get any really good shots.
There are some great photos of our Long Island Eagles on a Facebook page called Bald Eagles of Centerport, New York.

Great sculpture. The eagle doesn't look to be in a festive mood though.
