Hunting for leftover crab apples
***************
The bold twins (one of them is above) still travel together. However, their mom seems to have disappeared during mating season. Odds are there will be new Spring fawns in 2024. We've had three different bucks chasing the girls in our yard. This is the first year I've seen that kind of action so close to our house.
During the warm weather months, the doe and her fawns were inseparable. However, the desire to mate may be stronger than that of taking care of teenage kids. Despite our next-door neighbors stopping to feed the deer after Labor Day, the fawns still look fat & healthy. The last time that I saw their mom in November, she had a buck in hot pursuit. Maybe she'll get back together with her kids later in the season. Meanwhile, they're doing fine without her.
