Conversion of all external drives to solid state is now complete. The last one was my "originals" drive which is an archive of all the photos we have taken. I find comfort in that because I delete a lot from the Lightroom database. You know how it goes. Take lots of photos and keep the best ones. This drive doesn't get much use because I just transfer new images to it and back it up once in a while. It is relatively new (3 1/2 years) and I figured just leave it alone. Well, it started having a hard time getting spooled up. Maybe because it sits idle so much that it shuts down its disk. It started taking a long time to get going so I figured it was time to replace it with a solid state drive. Transferring the files was time consuming (4 1/2 hours). Backing up was also time consuming (6 hours) because the transfer reset the times slightly for 110,000 of the files. My backup software (Vice Versa Pro) read that as a file modification and copied the file to the target. Anyway, it feels good to have the set-up I am using. I remember the IBM 2311 "disk storage drive" which weighed in with a whopping 7.25 MB of rapid access storage.
