Mato Tipila

Devil's Tower, Wyoming

although Euro-Americans put another name on this huge magma formation, for centuries it was called Mato Tipila (bear's lodge) by native Oglala Lakota...the grooves on the surface are bear scratches as explained in a Lakota myth
