We had a little bit more adventure today than we like. While driving to Morro Rock, the check engine light started flashing. After restarting the car, the check engine light and another idiot light came on. A quick phone call to the nearest Honda dealer and we were on our way to San Luis Obispo for (we hoped) repairs. The dealership was very accommodating given our circumstances. A quick OBD-II check showed the #3 cylinder misfiring and you could feel the vibration in the engine. The technician pulled the spark plug and coil, and sure enough, they were the cause of the problem. A new plug and coil and we were on our way. The dealership didn't even charge for labor. They told me the root cause was a leaking oil passage which we can handle when we get back to Houston.
The good news was that it was over fast enough that we didn't miss our time for a guided tour of San Luis Obispo de Tolosa Mission.
