Black Lava Beach

Kanahena Cove, Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve

The ‘Āhihi-Kīna‘u reserve is located on the southwest corner of the island of Maui and was the first designated Natural Area Reserve in 1973.
The coastline at Kanahena Cove is covered with lava rocks from the last eruption of Haleakala volcano some 200-500 years ago giving it a black beach appearance.
Pebbles of white coral are mixed in with the lava rocks giving a speckled appearance.

Great shot of this unusual looking beach, so interesting because it's covered with lava. V.

a place for shoes as lava rock can be very sharp...an intriguing scene, and a fine composition..
