Apsara.

Bayon (XII-XIII C.)

In 1901 the EFEO (French School of Extreme East) entrusted to an architect, Henri Dufour, and a photographer, Charles Carpeaux (eldest son of the famous sculptor Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux) the task of clearing the site of the Bayon and photographing it. The Bayon is then totally covered with vegetation: shrubs, bushes, banyans, banana trees… Vaults have collapsed, the bas-reliefs are hidden by a heap of stone and grass…

the good work of the EFEO has great value, uncovering such marvelous art work...she appears to be a devata, from both stance and decorative features...a well crafted image shows the panel with impressive clarity..
