Indeed, on Saturday whole Tamil Nadu went on strike to get more support from the Central Government,
so these men had nothing else to do then talking together about the issues of the day,
reading the newspaper (an advertisement of Chief Minister Karunanidi and his two sons) and having a
tea facing the West Gopuram or Entrance Tower of the Meenakshi Temple at 17:30 in late afternoon.
The strike went on till 18:00, no one dared to open their business sooner to avoid the risk that strikers would throw stones at their shop.

It was the last day that foreigners could enter freely the inner entrance to the Tank and
Sanctuorums of the Meenakshi Temple. From April 1st all foreigners have to pay 10Rps, ok the non-low-budget travelers can afford.

Beggars were already not allowed in the Meenakshi Temple but due to a complain of tourists about the
aggressive begging around the temple, the Madurai Police started to make statistics about the number
of beggars harassing around the temple. A first warning was given to them and measures will be taken
to reduce the number of beggars drastically.

Thoughts on the side ... India knows indeed a lot of beggars, greed is growing, on the other hand,
the poor stay always poor, foreigners pay more and more for hospitality ... if at least that money
would go to the poor, that would be nice !
