We did some touring around the Niagara Falls area. The first stop was old Fort Niagara. The French built the first fort here in 1678 as part of LaSalle's exploration of the new world. Over the years it was occupied by the French, British and Americans. The buildings were in very good shape. There were demonstrations of musket and mortar firing. It was very hot. We also climbed up the lighthouse. It was built in 1872. You wonder why it was so far from the water.
We also stopped at the Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant. It had an interesting display about the plant and electricity in general. It opened in 1961. It is notable because the water source is above the falls and flows underground to the forebay of the generator.
After a stop at Whirlpool State Park to watch the Niagara river in it most impressive form, we got some gas, bought some supper and headed to the hotel.
Today's photo is of the Robert Moses Niagara Power Plant on the right and the Canadian Sir Adam Beck Hydroelectric Power Station on the left with the Niagara River flowing between.
