Heron on the Corner

More a roadside "distraction" than attraction.
Most people probably wouldn't have even noticed him.

However, with my 600mm lens in the car,
I made an abrupt stop, put my blinkers on, slid across to the passenger seat, opened the window, and stuck my 13-pound lens and 3-pound camera body out the window.

The harsh backlighting wasn't at all favorable for photography. Still, I managed a couple of decent photos anyhow. Today, an ugly, big steel outbuilding now stands on the corner where this heron used to fish. Ugh. I'm glad I took the time to stop back when the area was still more natural. This was a moment in time that has been lost to modern "progress".

Pretty good for a drive-by shot, and good that you got it when you did. V

A photo that is well worth your efforts to get it.

Excellent shot I think. The colours are terrific and the detail is spot on. But it is so sad to read that they've paved paradise, something that happens too often.V

Nice sharp spur-of-the-moment shot Liz. Too bad so much of nature is destroyed by civilization.

I'm glad you found it and had the big gun with you at the time. I often kick myself when I see something along the way and didn't stop. Great photo!

Terrific capture of this beautiful heron, and sad to read his natural environment is lost. I simply cannot imagine carrying around your heavy gear!

Sometimes progress isn't so good, I prefer sights like this.
