As I was out walking without my camera, along came the Goodyear Blimp. It must have been out cruising just for fun. As far as I know, there was no sporting event in the area.
Every time I see it, I remember when my son was in grade school, he won a contest and the prize was a ride on the blimp. He got to go but we were not allowed to go with him. I've always thought it would be fun.
The first blimp launched in 1917. There are 3 based here in the US. The one in California is about 8 miles from where I live.
There is also one in Europe. They are mainly used for advertising and aerial coverage of sporting events for television.
The current fleet are actually semi-rigid airships. That last true blimp was retired in 2017 but they are still referred to as the Goodyear Blimp.
