Proclus is 28 km in diameter near the edge of Mare Crisium. Proclus is very bright under any high sun angle. It has a butterfly-shaped ray pattern characteristic of a low angle meteor strike. Also in this image is the contrast of the relatively flat lava covered floor of Mare Crisium with the range of mountains on the edge thrown up by the meteor strike that originally caused the mare to be formed. The image is contrast enhanced to help bring out these features.
