Our travels today included the General Patton Memorial Museum and a trip through Joshua Tree National Park. We are returning to the park for a full day tomorrow.
The Patton museum was very well done. Lots of history and artifacts. There were several tanks on display, unfortunately, none of WWII vintage. We spent over two hours visiting. The museum is located on the site of the desert training center which was established in 1942 to prepare for the battles in North Africa.
Joshua Tree National Park is just a short hop and probably includes part of the desert training center. This was the 57th National Park (of 63) we have visited. We are going to visit three more on this road trip. This park is all desert. The big claim to fame are the Joshua Trees. There were quite a few plants that we had seen in other areas of the desert. It is a big park. Lots of driving. We had a few short hikes to see things. There were a couple oases to visit which included gigantic palm trees. That was a little surprising to me. Because it is the desert, it is hot and dry. There are many camping areas, but I don't think I would have much fun doing that.
Today's photo is the requisite picture at the sign.
