This morning we drove from Cairo to Fayoum, about a two hour trip. We headed out into the desert so see Qasr el Sagha, a temple built about 2000 BC. It is completely unadorned. That could be because it was never finished. We continued on to the petrified forest. There were lots of petrified trees around. There were also some fossils including a crocodile. We stopped for lunch Bedouin style. carpets on the ground and some pads and pillows. Food was good, but way more than we could eat. It was set up in the shade of a rock overhang.
After lunch we drove around the desert for a while looking at the local geology. Our drivers liked going fast in the sand and dropping over sand dunes. It was fun for a while.
We checked into our hotel, the Lazib Inn in Fayoum. It is very luxurious. Dinner was served on the lawn. It was very nice.
