Today's excursion was across the desert to Wadi El-Hitan, the valley of the whales. Yeah, I know, whales in the desert, huh. This area was a sea 35 million years ago and the whales were evolving. The Basilosaurus was the largest at up to 66 feet long. There was a skeleton in the museum. There are many skeletons in the surrounding area where they were left in place upon discovery. One was ten feet up on a huge rock. There was another Bedouin lunch under a rock then we headed back to the hotel via a circuitous route through the desert with many a dizzying turn and drop off the dunes.
Today's photo is of Ginny double photobombing my picture of a whale skeleton.
