The USA leads the world in both COVID infections and deaths.
The USA is now averaging 1 Million new COVID-19 infections every 5 to 6 days. Today (Labor Day 2021), the country passed 40 Million confirmed COVID infections.
Fifty Thousand MORE Americans are also now dead from coronavirus;
bringing the total up to 650,000 known American COVID deaths.
Speculation is that even more Americans have died from the disease but haven't been officially counted. These were real people: not mere numbers. Sadly, many of those, who haven't lost loved ones close to them, seem to forget or else not care. Most COVID deaths now are among the unvaccinated. But as the unvaccinated play easy host to the disease, more and more vaccinated people are also being effected; with a percentage now experiencing "break through" infections that can lead to hospitalization and Long COVID.
This is now an American tragedy that didn't have to be.
"Daily coronavirus infections are more than four times what the U.S. was seeing on Labor Day last year, or a 316% increase, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. And daily deaths are almost twice as high. Blame the highly contagious delta variant and a swath of Americans refusing easily accessible vaccines that most of the developing world is furiously scrambling to obtain. Hospitalizations are up 158% from a year ago, U.S. Health and Human Services data shows. The result: Some U.S. hospitals are getting so crowded with COVID-19 patients that physicians may soon be compelled to make life-or-death decisions on who gets an ICU bed. "We are perilously close," Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, told CNN. "You're going to have to make some very tough choices." USA Today
"COVID-19 cases in children jumped by 1,100% in Kansas City, health department says. Four times more children die from COVID than from the flu. Some children will also suffer long-term effects from COVID-19, similar to adults experiencing long haul symptoms." Kansas City Star
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), children are increasingly making up a larger proportion of COVID-19 cases in the United States. Nearly 1 in 4 COVID-19 Cases are now in Children." Healthline News
"KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some of the Kansas City metro's largest festivals – including Kansas City Irish Fest (90,000 people), the SantaCaliGon Days Festival (370,000 people), Plaza Art Fair (250,000 people) and Renaissance Festival (200,000 people) – returned this Labor Day weekend, drawing hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people. Masks and social distancing were not required for any of these events..." KSHB News
So based on how the Delta variant is spreading now - plus how local hospitals are currently full of COVID patients to the point of breaking - how bad will the COVID situation be like in another 4 weeks??? Missouri is a low vaccination state. There are others; with Mississippi and Alabama being the lowest.
