The Pandemic Continues: Spring/Summer 2021

Who would have thought that this situation would continue into yet another year?

I certainly didn't back in March 2020
when life as I knew it disappeared
and I first started this photo diary.

Since the first weekend in February 2021, my husband has been fully vaccinated;
as far as current COVID vaccines go. He should now have some immunity.
I got vaccinated later in later Spring 2021 as soon vaccines become more available for my younger age group.

Vaccinations are now available for anyone over 12 who wants one.

Americans continue to be infected.
American lives continue to be lost to the pandemic.
Mutations of COVID-19 are a concern for all.

Coronavirus precautions - masks and social distancing - have been relaxed in the USA.

However, our personal "Safer-at-Home" life style remains mainly in place;
as the more deadly, more contagious Delta variant takes hold in the part of the US (a hotspot) where we live.

I can hardly believe that we've pasted the one year point
and are well into year #2 of this pandemic nightmare.

Vaccines offered a potential light at the end of this dark tunnel of living through a pandemic.
However, so many refuse to use this lifeline.
Therefore, life as we once knew as "the old normal" has not yet returned.
I'm beginning for many, it may never.
A protective numbness to the situation has instead settled in.

Because of high vaccination rates, some parts of the US are doing much, much better than others. Unfortunately, we do not live in one of those areas. Even with being vaccinated, we continue to wear a mask & limit our activities to what we feel is "safe." In the county where we live, 70% of the population is not vaccinated. The unvaccinated also say that they do not plan to ever be vaccinated. So our part of the country has been labeled "The Canary in a Mine".

April and May and early June were filled with optimism that the United States would win this battle with COVID. With vaccinations being available to anyone over 12, the light at the end of the dark tunnel seemed very near. However, things didn't go as they should have. Instead, lack of people willing to be vaccinated and the Delta variant tragically took the country even farther deeper into the pandemic. By the end of August, the daily average of new COVID infections rose to over 300,000 per day with a tragic 3,000 daily new deaths.

Unlike the four "Isolation: Stay-at-Home" galleries I've done for the past year,
I won't be adding a daily entry into this gallery.
Instead, I'm going to try to concentrate more on other things...
I need the emotional break from the constant stress.
