04 And the Livin' is Easy (if you're a cat)

Boulder, CO

Actually, the livin' is easy all year round for this guy. Not so much for us. I got up this morning in the semi dark and came out to the (not so easy) living room, to see this guy (McCoy) and his sister (Spock) peering intently at a rather large shape on the floor. When he prodded it, it turned out to be a bird that he had brought in through his cat flap. Quite a large bird. It rose into the air and flew into the kitchen. I immediately opened as many doors as I could, hoping it would fly out. My wife, who has much more sense, grabbed a towel. She found the two cats looking at the bird again on the floor in the kitchen, and threw the towel over the bird. She was able to scoop it up, and take it outside. It then flew up into a tree, as if nothing had happened. I felt like spiking my morning coffee with whiskey (but didn't).

I'll post pictures of Spock and Kirk (sadly deceased) in the discussion thread.

Absolutely loved the story with the photo but now that we’ve seen Dr. McCoy (bones) I want to see a photo of Spock, especially the ears. Paul

LOL.
More reasons to keep me a dog person.
He certainly looks relaxed and living life well.

Yes, he certainly isn't starving. He often brings crickets into the house from the back yard (we have enclosed about two thirds of the yard, so he can use that, but not wander off into the street or the mountains, where there are many dangers for cats), and occasionally mice, which then hide under things and take hours to catch and release into the outdoors (probably to be eaten by owls or hawks). I have discovered a couple of dead birds in the house (one this year, one last year), but they were much smaller than the one he brought in today (and much deader). He doesn't really show much, if any, interest in eating them. I don't think he was taught to hunt by his mother as a kitten. We adopted him from the Humane Society when he was about 6 months old. His favorite toy of all is any bit of exposed human flesh, which he regards as fair game for scratching and biting.

LOL....I can see it all, what an excellent story. That also goes to prove that your cats love you....they were bringing you a gift. McCoy doesn't exactly look to be starving...;>)
