Dave, it's definitely a Reed Bunting, a female one. I originally was confused by the head colours.

Maybe a swamp sparrow? Of course there are different species on opposite sides of the ocean.

Mick I started thinking about the same thing, suspecting it’s not a sparrow. My logic is I’ve don't remember seeing a sparrow in the tall grass and reeds hanging on like this guy is so odds are your initial assessment was accurate. I do like the high key effect you’ve captured. Paul

LOL.
That is probably why I am not a bird watcher with a list. I do enjoy photographing them, however.

You know what... I'm going back to my original thought. It's a Reed Bunting alright, but a female. I'm going with the title... Don't bother me, I'm hiding from Mr Bunting.
I'm such an amateur. haha

Hmm. With a small change in the title, this is back in Eligible.

"Don't Bother Me, I am pretending to be a Bunting".

Same inspiration on shooting the picture.

Thanks Jim.

You are right Paul, it looks far more likely a sparrow. I was photographing the Buntings there last week, and just asumed this was the same bird, being as it was in the reeds.
How lazy of me. In my defence; they do look similar except that a Bunting has a white neck and black cap, of which this picture does's not show.
Shame, I liked my title, I'll move it out to pending for now.

On a related note: That wasn't the only thing I got wrong on the day.
See my thread in DPR... :-)

I thought this was a common sparrow, reed bunting... never seen one! Then it hit me, for a long time all the CIC photographers have been from the USA. Well if you exclude Traveller who lives in Southern California which is like a foreign country. Anyway now I understand you live in the UK and of course your wildlife is different than what we commonly see here and I like it. Paul

Birds can be very uncooperative.

Still a good capture.
