06 Penny Lane

Six UK coins (left to right, 50p, 2p, 10p, 20p, 1p, 5p) sunlit through the window. I used a boilie rolling table to create the lanes for the coins. The backdrop is the rear cover of The Beatles 1964 album 'A Hard Day's Night'.

Album: Magical Mystery Tour (1967). Title: Penny Lane.

Thank you Traveller.
The background is the album cover from 'A Hard Day's Night'. The part you see is the bottom half of the back cover.
I put a picture of the back cover in exhibition.

This is obviously fabulous so there isn't much to say about this...great work shows itself...but, what IS the background, the far background? Traveller

Thanks Alastair.

A boilie rolling table is used to make round balls of fishing bait which are then boiled briefly, and left to dry for a day'ish. They can be stored frozen in batches for several months. They are used either as hookbait or thrown in as loose feed.

Yes it is the 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens. I like it, it has very little distortion and is sharp throughout at 2.8, but I don't use it often myself. However, in the autumn winter months I like to leave it set up on a tripod close to my window bird feeder and use a remote trigger. It's nice being able to get it as close as 1ft away from your subject.

I love this, especially the lighting. I don't know what a boilie rolling table is, but you've put it to good use here. Is that the 40mm F2.8 pancake? I've owned the lens for years now, and not used it much, but when I do, I like the results so much that I don't want to sell it.

Paul, thanks for explaining your reasons. I couldn't image your situation, but it's good you still keep a tie with photography (your iPhone).
I did what Jim suggested, I looked at some of your shots from earlier years. I can see you have quite an eye for good use of lighting. It's very inspiring.

Mick,
Go back and look at some of Paul's shots. He was a master at controlling lighting which made so many of his shots.

Mick I simply hit a burn out about 18 months ago. I was on the verge of retiring and everything was just emotionally taxing. Retiring, shutting down and liquidating my business was the toughest challenging decision I’ve ever made. I had no idea the amount of work I was up agains just quitting work. Meanwhile I put all my gear aside for about a month as a test and came to the conclusion I could give up DSLR photography to help simplify my life a little. I might have rushed selling everything since I mis the resolution and ability to control lighting on a scene, but at the same time I enjoy the simplicity of the iPhone and so far I’m very impressed with the new iPhone 12 camera I recently got. Paul : I agree - this is a great use of light.

Thank you both, you flatter me.

Jim, I'd like to thank your grandson for keeping them pennies from you. :-D
Paul. Can I ask why you gave up your DSLR? Don't answer if I'm stepping on personal reasons.

Mick I seriously like your style. Reminds me so much like my own before I sold off all my DSLR equipment and strobes I had. Paul

What a great idea - and so very well executed.
The backdrop is frosting on the cake.

I have/had a US penny collection I had many years ago that had popped into my mind - except I gave it my grandson when I moved to Arizona.
