Signs of Civilization - Terlingua Ranch

Terlingua Ranch, Texas

We actually looked at this property for sale in Terlingua Ranch. The price includes a run-down house trailer.
This area is Terlingua Ranch. It was subdivided many years ago. Interesting history below.

Carroll Shelby's Terlingua Ranch
Flush with Ford Motor Company’s cash after parlaying a successful racing career into hot-rodded Shelby Mustangs, he began to buy up land around Terlingua.
When Shelby bought Terlingua, its population stood at seven, a number that didn’t include a few goats and a pair of burros.
Shelby and his drinking buddy, Dallas attorney Dave Witts, sought to create a high-end residential development in the area,
banking on the allure of its remote nature as a place for well-heeled folks to kick back and relax.
Instead, Shelby and Witts ended up using the ranch for partying and hunting. They invited their friends—a diverse crowd
hey dubbed the Rat Pack—and they’d load up a DC-3 in Dallas with dirt bikes, hunting rifles, cases of booze,
and enough provisions to keep their bellies full in case they didn’t sober up well enough to actually kill any animals.
They even started to hold chili cookoffs. But they never really developed or tried to sell the property.
In 1969, the first 100,000 acres of the ranch was bought by a group of yachters from Corpus Christi Texas and the land was subdivided and placed for sale.

A fascinating history of this place. I cannot somehow see a subdivision here. The land is beautiful as it is, hope it is left. V

Ok it's about as far from yachting as you can get, so maybe that's what appealed to them.

buying here is an intriguing option...not sure what yachters would want here, perhaps a year round drydock..

Cool sign and I like the mountains in the background. I am actually surprised how high the price is. I can get you cheaper. ;-) "V"

Love the composition here, and I can see where it might be an attractive place to live for some. V.
