Looking south from Ecola State Park to Cannon Beach and it’s beautiful sea stacks,
including 235’ Haystack Rock in the distance. Lewis and Clark visited the area
in 1805 while hunting for food, some 20 miles south of Fort Clatsop. They found a
fresh whale carcass at the mouth of Ecola Creek, thus having blubber for various uses in camp.
