This is a white oak that stands along a wooded pathway that my wife and I take our dog walking on occasion. I would estimate the tree to be about 400 plus years old. The circumference if this tree is larger that a 400 year old white oak called the Merry Tree that a storm recently destroyed at Smithfield Plantation adjacent to the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. Having seen both oak trees, this is the larger of the two. A silent witness to the history of this region of Virginia. I can only wonder at the tales it could tell. In this area white oak trees are very rare with most oak trees being red oak. To capture the entire tree it would have required me using using my 8mm fisheye lens which I did not have with me.
