A Gift from the Neighbors

dandelions as far as the eye can see

About 10 years ago, the dandelion explosion migrated into our yard from an uncontrolled invasion in the next door neighbor's yard. Having over 3 acres of lawn to take care of, we have repeatedly tried to eliminate the dandelions. However, we can't control the weeds unless the neighbors also do something. They refuse. So we've learned to accept what is. Springtime means a dandelion invasion. We now just think of them as spring flowers.

USA
880,204cases of COVID-19
49,845 American Deaths

Milestone: The USA has both the most cases and the most deaths from COVID-19 than any other Nation on Earth.
The death toll for the USA now exceeds Spain and Italy's together.

Like with controlling COVID-19, it takes a community working together to stop the spread of dandelions. If one person lets things get out of hand, the problem then continues to move on to others. You can temporarily tamp the problem down for a while. However if one lets things stay out of control for them, the problem soon comes back for others, too.

Luckily, dandelions aren't a "serious" problem as far as problems go. They spread easily & choke out the grass. Still, they are part of Mother Nature's plan. Since childhood, I've liked these sunny yellow flowers; except now when they are wall to wall in our lawn. Dandelions grow on every continent on Earth; including Antarctica where they are an unwelcome, invasion species.

Dandelions are great flowers to help the early pollinators (bees especially) before other flowers come along. I love them, cheery and bright yellow and then the fluffy seedheads! But I know not every one does :-) V
