April 21, 2020

As part of my get out of the house everyday routine, I decided to go back to the shooting club for some pistol shooting. The weather was pleasant and I had fun. That's why I do these things. On the drive out and back I was trying to be observant about which things were open. Lots of retail stores are closed. Fast food places are open for take out. Probably the one fast food chain that has been least affected is Sonic. The reason is that they never had seating for diners. It is all drive up and take out or eat in your car. The Sonic near us probably did suffer a drop in business because it is two blocks from the high school land was a popular place for the students to go.

To today's picture. Houston Metro is the local transit authority. They have bunches of Park and Ride sites around town. I use the Bay Area Park and Ride when I have to go in for jury duty. As I drove by, I was stunned to see the lot completely empty. I checked the web site and they have cancelled all the Park and Rides that don't go to the medical center. Many of the bus routes have been curtailed. They have suspended collection of fares. I am tempted to have a drive to downtown Houston to see what is going on there. One other thing is they have closed all the HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lanes. I have no idea about the necessity to do this. Some things just seem arbitrary.

HOV: There aren't many vehicles in which 6 foot separation is possible.
