We have been doing the isolation routine for 5 1/2 weeks. Occasional trips to the grocery store and the liquor store. Thank heaven that liquor stores are considered essential business, but this is Texas. I learned today while driving that apparently car washes are also considered essential businesses.
So today I made a resolution that I would get out every day and do something that is considered essential. It turns out that shooting ranges are essential (Texas!). My shooting club has cancelled all the formal matches and classes, but the range is open to members as usual. So I headed out and set up on the rifle range at 50 and 100 yards. We have lots of different ranges, so there is a plethora of choices. I had been working on some loads for my Winchester Model 94 .30-30 and today I got a chance to check them out. They worked as I expected. That was good. Then I got out my Ruger Mark I pistol and blew through 300 rounds and had some fun. Shooting a .22 is certainly cheap thrills. I could hit the man size steel target at 100 yards with ease. Of course, there are many people out there that could do the same throwing rocks. I personally can't throw things that far. That is why I use a pistol.
So here I am with my trusty old Winchester blowing holes in paper. I had a great time. Life is good. Thinking of my friend John Cooper. Guess where I am going tomorrow.
