Beefeaters from the Tower of London on parade at the funeral of King Edward the VII.
The proper title for the Beefeaters is "The Yeomen Warders of Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress the Tower of London, and Members of the Sovereign's Body Guard of the Yeoman Guard Extraordinary"
The Yeomen Warders were formed in 1485 and it is believed that the Beefeater name originated in 1669 when Cosimo III de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany visited the court and commented on the amount of beef they ate, he referred to them as Beefeaters.
