The bird-seed tree

At home

The tree is where we hang a dish for bird seed, and I can watch the birds from
my computer window... they can be quite amusing, especially when the little sparrows
dive in and out of the dish when the boss birds are enthroned... talking about the
Rainbow Lorikeets! I did feature them yesterday in the collage... a family of about
14 frequent the dish, and the adult birds always go first... woe betide any that
jump the queue! Other birds that come to the dish are galahs, magpies,
sulphur crested cockatoos, peewees, crested pigeons and the little sparrows.

The dish has no water hole, I don't put seed out if its likely to rain, the birds don't like wet seed and have
got used to the routine. During the morning the trees fill with birds waiting for
me to refresh the seed bowl. The tree is a self-sown eucalyptus and is multi-stemmed
because it had been eaten down when young, or mowed over by us in the early days, so
it is only about 40+ years of age yet. In the background is a bird bath..

I bet the tree enjoys the daily company from the feathered friends.

Looks very good for its age. Nice detail in your image. They are very common trees here, but not welcome in most gardens, because of the mess they make and the fact that grass does not survive under them. The nearby park and lake where I walk has hundreds, if not thousands of different kinds of Eucalyptus Trees. "V"

A fine tree for a 40-year old! Eucalyptus leucoxylon perhaps?
