Mallard romance (2): Puffed up Mr. Mallard

This is part of a series of shots of these two mallards, whose “romantic interlude” I witnessed. After posing for a formal portrait (previous/below picture), Mr. Mallard suddenly jumped on Mrs. Mallard, but apparently facing in the wrong direction. He then turned himself around, and finally posed again, looking very pleased with himself.

*****

We thought we’d see what Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens in Washington, D.C., was like in winter. Naturally all the lotuses and water lilies were gone, but we did find some birds during our walk around the extensive grounds.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Fascinating to watch other species go through sometimes humorous behavior.

Cool shot- my favorite part is how she is looking at him. I'd love to know what she's thinking.

Mallards are so common that we often forget to appreciate how beautiful they are. Your two shots here are striking and show them both off to perfection. V
