This is part of a series of shots of these two mallards, whose “romantic interlude” I witnessed. After posing for a formal portrait (first picture in gallery), Mr. Mallard suddenly jumped on Mrs. Mallard, but apparently facing in the wrong direction. He then turned himself around, and finally posed again (previous/below picture), looking very pleased with himself. After all was said and done, he literally raced off. I don’t know where Mrs. Mallard was.

We thought we’d see what Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens in Washington, D.C., was like in winter. Naturally all the lotuses and water lilies were gone, but we did find some birds during our walk around the extensive grounds.
Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.
