So here we are at last, Trafalgar Square. Another Monopoly property knocked over and somehow the place that I had most anticipated. Exactly why that is I'm not completely sure because once I got here I realised how little I had really known about it. There were snippets of images here and there, but never a realistic image of what the place was like. I was aware of Nelson's Column (though I had not realised exactly how tall the thing is), I was aware of the existence of a fountain, but... yeah, well, that's clearly not on the agenda for today.
I had not realised that the National Gallery was facing right onto it (though it's behind me in this shot), or the church of St Martins In The Field come to that (behind me and to my left), nor that you could glimpse the Houses Of Parliament (between the buildings on the right) from here.
I had no notion of the four plinths, three of which contain statues, nor of the fourth which contains a rotating temporary exhibit.
In short I had a vision of Trafalgar Square that was not really, in fact, Trafalgar Square. And it must be said, it has probably looked better than this. The sky doesn't help, nor do the hoardings and the maintenance going on behind them.
