s-l1600 - 2019-10-10T204018.452.jpg

An antique 19th Century tsakli paintingof unusual horizontal format in mineral pigments depicting the armour of one of the 7 possessions of the Chakravartin, the Precious General, made of forged metal plates bound together with leather thongs and edged with tiger skin, with a green silken ribbon for tying around the waist in the manner of the warriors of ancient times and from which hangs an animal skin. He has a helmet which protects his head and neck, with a jewel to the tip; a 'cloud collar' over his shoulders and a blue cummerbund which holds a gold mirror at his breast. His Generals flags fly behind him. To his right and left are his shield and a treasure vase, on the outside of which are his leopard skin arrow holder and tiger skin bow-holder. Behind him are an array of weapons indicating his readiness to defend the realm of the dharma, swords, a golden goad, a golden hammer, and a golden axe.
The Precious General's might and armour ensures that he is never defeated in battle, having attained mastery of the 64 strategic Arts of War. He fights for truth and justice, and causes no harm to other beings. When the righteousness of the dharma has been established throughout the realm, and the peace of wisdom and compassion prevails, the Precious General Removes his armour and becomes the 'Precious Householder'. At his feet are many offerings of precious gems, treasure and tusks. 10.4 x 7.9cm
