Day 10 September 2
Our initial objective was Belle Meade Plantation. We had been there before but the others had not. We enjoyed it a second time. The plantation was probably most famous for breeding thoroughbred horses. A very large number of Kentucky Derby winners can trace their lineage back to horses at Belle Meade. The plantation also did other stuff, particularly hosting visitors. As with many large family concerns, it fell upon hard times. And also as with many of these concerns, some group of people started an effort to put it back the way it was, more or less. The mansion itself has been repopulated with much of its original furnishings. It pays to keep good records at estate auctions.
Our original plan for lunch was to try the Loveless Cafe, a well regarded place south of Belle Meade. It was also very crowded so we went to plan B and hit a local joint with good food and cold beer. Life is good.
In the afternoon we went to the Johnny Cash Museum just off Broadway. It was very good. They were showing concert videos and I got totally sucked in. His songs are so well known that I could recognize most of them and hum along.
Ginny and I ended up back at the hotel where I did the laundry and we just relaxed for the evening. Today's photo is the sign at the Johnny Cash Museum.
