Prominent moth caterpillar (Lochmaeus sp.)

Reveler Conservation Area

Feeding on a basswood leaf. This is either the Variable Oakleaf moth caterpillar, or the Double-lined prominent moth caterpillar. The larvae look very similar. Every time I've gone out over the last three weeks, looking for insects, I have found at least a half dozen of these Lochmaeus caterpillars in various stages of growth. They vary wildly in pattern depending on which instar they are.
