Man at Sunset With his Friend (see below)

For the technically inclined...shot with a 8x neutral density filter. This is my first time using it, or owning one...other shots may follow. (Underwater Aquatic life at La Jolla was bad, worse than I have ever seen it. I tried two different sites a half a mile apart. {the walking was good for me...with the swimming, fitbit says I did 168minutes of cardio, which is...radically unusual for lazy me}...but except for fat sea lions sitting (? yes honestly sitting under very occluded water with me), there was almost nada alive in this marine reserve and underwater park. But sometimes bad water makes for good outcomes, it forced me to try this new technique.

That's brilliant. Simply brilliant. Nosy me wants to know what's in the man's hand. I'm hoping its a ball to throw for the dog and not a cell phone. Here's to more bad (but not unsafe) water and spectacular scenes.

Yes, I think you are correct...but there is a lot of luck to a shot like this....the man's lime greenish shirt matches some of the ocean color to the mid-left of the frame. Somehow I think these complement each other.

Be that as it may, this is only a 6x....my thinking was that I could thread my polarizer on for an addition 2 stops if needed.

Most importantly it is the slim version.

The man and the dog make the photo, without them its “hey that’s nice” with them it’s “wow that’s a fantastic capture”.
I’m guessing you have a ND 8, 3 stops of light. Or did you buy a variable ND which you can then dial up as much as you need. Purest photographers don’t use the variables because they are not consistent across the lens and add some color shifting. Paul

T - I love dogs, but I can assure you that the dog was not the stimulus for my comments.

Re Young lady - you just tell me what size you want. I'll do it in a combo of Lightroom and Photoshop, so resizing is not an issue. I'll probably also give you a couple of proofs to choose from, as I think the darkening aspect will be a personal choice (as is most any art).

Thanks, Jim, from you also?! My cup runneth over.... Of course your comments on color are special, I never know and measure everything I do against you...sooooo/

Maybe I'm getting all this praise because who doesn't love a dog on the beach?...lol

BTW, I may need your doppelganger image a little larger if I give you the original. She was more impressed with your work than my original. (of course). We will see. )(too many obligations)

This shot - I am not quite sure what to say. You have posted some very good ones in the past. I especially liked the portrait of the young actress last challenge.
But this might be your best work yet.

The composition - excellent. A great minimalistic landscape
The colors - like a beautiful painting
The lighting - a perfect sunset
Technically - flawless.

Forget the challenge. You should print this and frame it. It belongs in a gallery.

Thanks, Paul, I am pleased with this...I have many without him....or his dog, but they seemed, maybe, to lack the emotional appeal of this one. A compliment from you is always worth 2,000 words....lol

I will note that getting the dog to stand still for two and a half seconds with all the waves coming in was....the definition of difficult. He would happily dash here or there, hither or thro....Thanks again, Traveller
