A Warm Summer Moon

A friend, that knows these things, called me all the way across the country from Florida to tell me that both Saturn and Jupiter were on either side of the moon tonight...I don't know stuff like this, but he was correct...so I pulled out my weak(ish) 70~200nonIS F lens, and while I could not shoot all three celestial bodies together, the way the sun was casting unusual (to me) nice shadow detail...so I shot the moon instead. *Tripod, mirror lock-up

I kind of like it.

But enough of this foolery, back to work!

Very nice moon capture! I have a app on my iPhone called Sky Guide, it is very useful and shows everything one might want to know about the night sky including the moon, sun and planets located in the ecliptic. I can't remember but it was free or just a couple of dollars. The more I think about it I must have paid a few bucks because I never get ads popping up on it like most free apps.
