Blue Butterfly

I was out shooting with my pancake when I spotted this butterfly on our hostas. I would much rather have had my macro lens mounted. So I used what I had. Of course I went inside and changed lenses. The butterfly apparently had other plans and didn't wait for me. Maybe another time.

I don’t have the 24 pancake lens but I have seen it and it’s only slightly bigger than the blank cover for the camera body. Paul

Thanks, Jim. Oh boy, did I crop. Uncropped image in pending.

The 80D is a compact package with the pancake attached. While the kit zoom covers the focal length and has image stabilization, the pancake is a bit faster and can be carried in a pocket when shooting with a longer or macro lens.

Very nice capture. The lens and photographer did well here.
I don't have such a lens -- did you crop much?

Maybe it's time for me to invest in a butterfly net (or find the ones that came with the children's painted lady butterfly kits).

The fact that the coiled tongue is visible even though I shot from a respectful distance shows how well the pancake acquits itself.

Generally I stand alone in my techniques and methods but I would have tried to capture him and put him into a small container then with about a 10 to 15 minute visit to the refrigerator he would have been much more cooperative for about 5 or 6 minutes and fly away unharmed. Paul
