The ship was built in 1900 as an ice breaker, but was also intended as a management vessel for the board of directors of the he national Department of Waterways and Public Works a.k.a. Rijkswaterstaat.
Operational area was on the river Waal and ancillary rivers and the provincies of South Holland and Zeeland.
Still operating as a museumship at the jetty of the National Maritime museum in Amsterdam.
