Victory Banner

A splendid antique tsakli painting, Tibet, 19th Century or earlier depicting the Victory Banner (Sanskrit: dhvaja) said to be placed on the summit of Mount Meru, symbolising the Buddha's victory over the entire universe.

In the mandala offering, the victory banner and the parasol are the 2 auspicious symbolsplaced to the north and south of Mt Meru respectively, and are paired with the sun in the north east and the moon to the southwest.

The wish fulfilling jewel at the tip of the Victory Banner symbolises the complete victory of the Buddha's enlightenment and corresponds to the jewels on the heads of the deities.
