Day 8
One thing that Ginny loves to do is ride horses. That is something, like climbing lighthouses, that I refuse to do. She had scheduled a ride down on Hatteras Island so we headed off there early in the morning. It was overcast and threatening rain, but the ride was on. Overall, it took about 3 hours. It rained on the group, but she was undaunted and had a great time. The highlight of the ride for her was going fast on the beach.
After the ride we stopped at Chicamacomice Life Saving Station. The US Life Saving Service was started in 1870. This was one fo the first locations. Many daring rescues were made from here. The Life Saving Service morphed into the US Coast Guard.
Since Ginny was pretty wet from her ride, we went back to the hotel so she could get a shower and some dry clothes. The afternoon activity was a tour of the Outer Banks Distillery in Manteo. They make rum and have been in business for only four years. There was a tasting. I found the three we tried to be exceptionally unremarkable. But it was fun.
Today's photo is of Ginny with her rent-a-horse Oz.
