Overlooking this area was a large (and free!!) telescope; we believe it was there to help visitors spot the aoudads
(Barbary sheep, or goat-antelope, brought here from north Africa by soldiers stationed in Chad during World War II).
We didn't see any there, but had seen them at Davis Mountains State Park.
