This item was part of a total collection of ritual objects taken from a family in Lasie Tuolu, northwest Ghana. The owner has been converted to Christianity and handed the objects over to the Parish Priest.
The pot is a healing Material. It is special pot called ‘the spirit pot’ (koton duglé) was found in each basket. The one in basket A was empty. The one in basket B contained medicinal substance. The Konton pot is so designed with pimples all around it to distinguish it from all the other pots which are used as utensils in the Dagara household. They should not be used for cooking and indeed, one should never put fire under them. They may be kept empty or they may be filled with medicinal substances. This particular pot was empty.
